Cloning of human embryos could allow scientific research that might prevent genetic diseases and cancer.

    Controlled Experiments

  1. One of the main uses for cloned human embryos is scientific research. Having many copies of the same embryo can allow for a controlled medical experiment.
  2. Genetic Disease

  3. Experimentation on human embryos can allow scientists to eliminate genetic disease. Some experiments have shown it is possible to add or subtract certain DNA sequences as the embryo develops.
  4. Gender Manipulation

  5. Once cells can be removed from the cloned embryo without harming it, then the cells can be used for genetic testing. This could allow couples to choose their child's gender to avoid a gender-based genetic disease.
  6. Human-Animal Organs

  7. By removing human genes and replacing them in animals, scientists could create animal organs that might be used in human organ transplants. The organs would be closer to human organs so the human immune system wouldn't reject them.
  8. Cancer Cures

  9. Research on human embryos might make it possible to stop the cellular growth associated with cancer. This could put the cancer on hold, preventing it from spreading more throughout the body.
