Side Effects of Zetia Cholesterol Medicine

Zetia is also known by the generic name ezetimibe. It is used to treat high cholesterol and works by reducing the absorbed amount of cholesterol and other sterols by your body. Some patients have experienced side effects while using Zetia.

    Major Side Effects

  1. Seek immediate medical attention when taking Zetia if you experience jaundice, dark urine, chest pain or severe upper stomach pain.
  2. Minor Side Effects

  3. Minor side effects associated with Zetia are diarrhea, tiredness, headache, depression, cough and back pain.
  4. Warnings

  5. Zetia should not be taken if you have liver disease or are allergic to ezetimibe. You should also avoid Zetia if you have diabetes or overactive thyroid.
  6. Drug Interactions

  7. Some drugs that are know to interact with Zetia include Colestid, Atromid-S, Lopid, Neoral and Prevalite. Blood thinners are also known to interact. You should tell your doctor about any medications or vitamins you are taking.
  8. Overdose

  9. Although an overdose of Zetia is not known to cause a fatality, if you believe you may have overdosed, you should seek medical attention right away.
