Salbutamol (albuterol) is a type of bronchodilator, a drug inhaled directly into the lungs to relieve constriction of the bronchial tubes. It is used to treat the symptoms of conditions such as asthma and bronchitis and other types of lung diseases.

    Severe Side Effects

    • Severe side effects of salbutamol include swelling of the throat, rash, chest tightness and hives. If any of these symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately.

    Interactions

    • If you take Salmeterol or Formoterol, seek medical advice before using Salbutamol. Salbutamol may also interact with anti-inflammatory drugs.

    Pregnancy

    • Salbutamol is not known to cause any complications in pregnancy. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should advise their doctor when discussing the possibility of taking Salbutamol.

    Warning

    • Patients with these conditions may notice worsening of symptoms when taking Salbutamol: high blood pressure, heart disease and hyperthyroidism. Patients with any other preexisting conditions should also seek medical advice before taking Salbutamol.
