What Is Bond Paper?

If you are preparing a resume or need to create letterhead for your business, you cannot print these pieces on normal copy paper. You must purchase bond paper.

  • Bond paper is a thick, stiff, opaque, bright paper that is commonly used in professional projects. The quality is measured by how fuzz-free, durable and smooth the finish is.

  • In addition to using this paper for resumes and letterheads, bond paper is also used to print legal documents, prepare award certificates and create marketing materials.

  • The bond of a paper refers to the strength of the fibers that hold it together. The fibers of high-quality bond paper do not come loose easily.

  • There are two types of bond paper: rag content pulp and chemical wood pulp. Rag content is a higher quality paper and made of cotton or linen, while chemical wood paper is made from trees.

  • The weight of a bond paper is determined by its weight in pounds when a ream of 500 sheets, sized at 17 by 22 inches per sheet, is weighed.
