What Is Tuscan Style?


Tuscan style is inspired by the Italian countryside, with its earthy tones and natural elements such as wood, stone and iron. It is a simple, rustic and comfortable design style that creates an inviting home.

Colors and Textures

  • Warm tones of brown, green, gold, russet and sand are a hallmark of Tuscan style. Textured walls recall the look of old Italian farmhouses and villas.


  • In a Tuscan-style room, the furniture should be simple and solid, with a functional elegance. Wood is a major element in Tuscan furniture.


  • For flooring, terra-cotta or stone tiles are used most often. Rustic wood floors also work in a Tuscan-inspired room, but carpet does not.

A Touch of Stone

  • Stone is ubiquitous in Tuscany, with its centuries-old buildings. If your room doesn't have stone floors or walls, bring it in through stone-topped tables or accessories such as vases or statuary.

  • Incorporate wrought iron into light fixtures, picture frames or accent tables to enhance a room's natural elements. Colorful ceramics are also characteristic of the Tuscan style.
