Eczema in Dogs
Eczema is a general term that refers to disorders that result in red, itchy, and scaly skin. A dog's immune system response to the environment and allergens determines the severity.

Types
-
Eczema can present in dogs as a red scaly dry patch or oozing red bumps.
Irritants
-
Detergents and alcohol containing grooming products cause eczema because they strip the skin's natural oils.
-
Allergens
-
A dog can have a food allergy to animal or vegetable byproducts in his food or suffer an allergic reaction to pollen that can exacerbate eczema.
Hot Spots
-
Bacteria invading a wound and causing it to spread rapidly causes moist eczema also known as hot spots.
Treatment
-
If there is no food allergy, eczema can be treated by using natural products and topical creams prescribed by your vet.
