There are a many different types of arthritis, but there is one aspect they all have in common -- pain. Fortunately, there are a number of prescription pain relief options available.

Corticosteroids and steroids like Prednisone are meant to imitate the body's own cortisol to help reduce inflammation. They are prescribed for arthritis pain relief either in pill form or injected directly into the painful area.
DMARDs

Disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARDs) act as pain relief for arthritis by helping to stop the damage the disease can bring. Ridaura and Plaquenil are two that are used often.
BRMs

Biologic response modifiers (BRMs) are available in intravenous and injection form by prescription. They suppress the inflammation of arthritis, providing relief for arthritis pain.
Other Options

Antidepressants, muscle relaxers, tranquilizers and salicylates are prescriptions drugs that are sometimes used to relieve pain from arthritis. There are also topical creams and lotions that can help.
