Cats and kittens should be dewormed on a regular schedule. There are several types of worms that can infect cats, and deworming medication depends on what type of parasite has infected your cat or what type of parasite you are trying to prevent.

  1. Piperazine Salts

    • This medication is founded in branded products such as Hartz Advanced Care Liquid and Sergeant's Worm Away. It treats roundworms and can be given to kittens as young as six weeks.

    Mibemycin Oxime

    • This medication is found in Interceptor. It treats roundworms and hookworms, and can be given to kittens as young as six weeks.

    Selamectin

    • This medication is found in the topical flea and ear mite preventative called Revolution. It treats roundworms and hookworms. It can be given to kittens as young as eight weeks.

    Pyrantel Pamoate

    • This medication is found in the branded product Drontal and treats roundworms. It can be given to kittens as young as four weeks and weighing as little as 1.5 lbs.

    Praziquantel

    • This medication is found in the branded products Drontal and Profender. It treats two types of tapeworms. Drontal can be given to kittens as young as four weeks and Profender can be given to kittens as young as eight weeks.

    Emodepside

    • Emodepside is found in the branded product Profender, and treats roundworms. It can be given to kittens as young as eight weeks.
