Newspaper Boy Job Description

The job of a newspaper boy, or delivery boy, is to deliver the newspaper to homes in and around his neighborhood. Despite the job title, the newspaper "boy" is often a girl.

Early Delivery

  • After being printed, newspapers intended for home delivery are driven by van to the home of the newspaper boy, usually by 4 or 5 a.m.

  • Newspaper boys are provided with addresses of the houses that receive the newspapers.

  • Once the bundles of papers have been dropped off, newspaper boys are expected to deliver the papers right away, usually by 6 a.m. for morning editions.

  • Depending on the size of the neighborhood route, newspaper boys rarely spend more than an hour or two delivering papers.

  • Newspaper delivery boys typically earn less than minimum wage from their employer, but they often get tips and bonuses from customers when they collect on the bill.
