What is Hair Mousse?

Hair mousse is a foamy hair product used by women and men. In the '80s, hair mousse often included glitter to give hair extra shine--for example, at a disco or night club.

Main Uses

Hair mousse gives definition to the curls and waves in the hair. It also adds fullness and volume to thin, fine and lifeless hair.

When to Use

Use hair mousse on damp hair to stop frizz or on dry hair to reshape a style. Use it on wet hair for a sleek but not stiff hairstyle. Use it on wet hair after shampooing to add body and volume.

Types

Not all hair mousses serve the same purpose. Some work with hot styling tools, while others work best with air drying and finger stylin. Pay attention to the label to see which is which.

Quantity

Don't use too much mousse on your hair---it will become sticky and stiff. Spray a quantity the size of a golf ball into the palm of your hand to start with, and then use more if you need it.
