In Color Theory, Is Black a Color?

Many different things are black. Any object could be black. In complete darkness, a small light is very perceptible. In a bright environment, black stands out in contrast to the brightness.

  1. Light Photons

    • When photons of light are concerned, black is the absence of light.

    Black Pigment

    • When pigments are considered, black is the outcome of mixing all of the primary and secondary colors together.

    A Neutral

    • On the color wheel, black is considered a neutral color.

    Pigments

    • The pigments used to make black paint come from carbon based materials such as charcoal.

    Opinions

    • Light is not reflected off of black objects. All of the photons of light are absorbed into the black object causing it to heat up.
