Information on a Tennis Elbow Cure

Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, results from constant stress on the lateral epicondyle and leads to chronic pain. Alleviating the problem requires rest and reduction of inflammation.

  1. Reducing Inflammation

    • Since this is a chronic problem that leads to an inflammation of the joint, you need to reduce swelling. This can be done by taking ibuprofen and icing the joint after playing and several other times a day.

    Rest

    • The most common activities leading to tennis elbow are tennis, throwing and painting. Taking a break from such activites will remove the stress and allow your elbow to rest.

    Correcting Form

    • For many, it isn't the activity that leads to tennis elbow, but doing the activity with improper form. Check with a professional to correct any problems with your form that may be stressing your elbow.

    Compression

    • An elastic bandage or other wrap should be used to reduce swelling and provide support to the joint. It should be used during activity and anytime pain is present.

    Surgery

    • In extreme cases, surgery may be required to alleviate the pain by cutting the tendon or removing inflamed tissue.
