  1. Shapes

    • The King Cake is baked most often into a circular or oval shape. It is shaped like a large doughnut with a hollow center.

    Icing

    • White icing is dripped over the surface of the King Cake. The icing is most often made of confectioner's sugar, vanilla extract and water.

    Colors

    • The King Cake is sprinkled with colored sugars of green, gold and purple. These represent faith, power and justice, respectively.

    Beads

    • Sometimes a King Cake has a few festive doubloon necklaces laid on top of the icing. Those necklaces represent the fun and frivolity of the Mardi Gras celebration.
