Blow drying hair, although a useful styling technique, can severely damage hair. This article looks into the specifics of that damage.

    Medium Heat

  1. Either set your hair dryer on medium heat, or alternate between hot and cold. If the hair dryer is constantly on the "hot" setting, your hair will dry out and lose its silky finish.
  2. Stay Right Side Up

  3. Do not flip your hair upside down to blow dry it. If you do this, the hair you are drying will lay the wrong way and the strands will tangle.
  4. Use a Diffuser

  5. If you have curly hair, always use a diffuser when blow drying your hair. Extreme heat concentrated on one spot of your hair will cause the bonds in the hair to break and make hair frizzy instead of curly.
  6. Use the Right Products

  7. To prevent damage to your hair, use the right products for your hair type. Products should lock in moisture.
  8. Give Your Hair a Break

  9. Do not blow dry your hair every day. If hair is constantly exposed to extreme heat, it could be damaged and dried out permanently.
