Heart Disease Symptoms in Men

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 9 percent of Caucasian men, 7 percent of black men and 6 percent of Mexican-American men live with coronary heart disease. Knowing the symptoms can help men avoid an early death.

Chest Discomfort

One symptom is discomfort near the middle of the chest. The pain lasts for a few minutes or longer and may come and go.

Shortness of Breath

Shortness of breath is another symptom of heart disease in men. This can occur while exercising or simply getting out of bed.

Pain

Pain in the upper body is another symptom of heart disease. The pain can be located in either arm, the upper back, the neck or even the stomach area.

Cold Sweat

According to the American Heart Association, in addition to these symptoms of heart disease, men's symptoms can include nausea, lightheadedness and cold sweats.

Risk Factors

Risk factors for men include high cholesterol, high blood pressure and lack of physical activity. A poor diet also increases their chance of heart disease.
