Defined, Dextromethorphan HBr is a synthetic morphine derivative that is used as an antitussive in the form of hydrobromide salt. Dextromethorphan HBr is taken to manage a nonproductive cough. It actually suppresses the cough center in the medulla. This should not be taken for chronic cough, or if the cough is accompanied by excessive secretions.
