Lisinopril is a generic medication that is prescribed to treat several conditions of the heart and blood vessels. Among its uses are treatment of a congestive heart disease, controlling high blood pressure and improving chances of survival after a heart attack. It may have several side effects, including sexual ones.

    Significance in Women

  1. In women, lisinopril may cause a decreased desire to have sexual relations. This may happen after first taking the medication but should soon go away.
  2. Significance in Men

  3. Men, on some occasions, will experience erectile dysfunction after taking lisinopril. This is rare and should disappear after a short period of time.
  4. Considerations

  5. If the sexual side effects last for an extended period of time, see your doctor.
  6. Prevention/Solution

  7. Your doctor may recommend a smaller dose of lisinopril, or in the case of men, may prescribe an erectile dysfunction medication. Another drug may be prescribed in place of the lisinopril.
  8. Speculation

  9. It is impossible for your doctor to know beforehand whether you will have sexual side effects from lisinopril because they are rare.
