What Is Fax ECM?
Fax machines have a variety of added features which make the transmission of documents successful. A fax machine's Error Correction Mode (ECM) is instrumental in enabling a fax to arrive at a destination in its complete form.

What a Fax ECM is
-
Fax ECM is the error correction mode used during transmission by fax machines. It is a form of communication between fax machines which eliminates any loss of information.
What an ECM does
-
The error correction mode (ECM) is meant to smooth out a fax transmission. ECM will get rid of any glitches that might interrupt a fax and make the fax transmit in its true form without error, so that the recipient will see the document you faxed in its entirety.

ECM Becoming the Standard
-
Some fax machines enable a user to turn off the ECM function, but most fax machines utilize ECM as a standard.
ECM Smooths Transmission
-
Often telephones lines are noisy, which means interruptions may occur and make a transmission fuzzy at its best. The noise on a telephone connection can alter the bits of data (octets) being transmitted by a fax. Fax ECM lets the fax machine that is transmitting the data communicate to the receiving fax machine and lets it know which bits of data have been tampered with. The receiving fax is then able to repair the bits of data and print out a complete fax. Fax ECM refuses to let the noise interfere with a fax and enables people to transmit documents without error.
Maintains Fax Integrity
-
While there are fax machines that can disable ECM, there does not appear to be a good reason to do so. Fax ECM reduces distortion and maintains a document's integrity.
Fax ECM
-
The Fax ECM is instrumental in allowing documents to be transmitted clearly and arrive at a destination in its most original state.
