History
-
Microsoft's MSN Search became available in 1998, using results from other search engines. In 2004, Microsoft built its own search engine. In 2006, MSN Live Search became Windows Live Search. In 2007, the search engine dropped Windows from its name, becoming simply Live Search.
Considerations
-
Live Search offers numerous types of searches, allowing users to find precisely what they need. Along with web pages, images and music, Live Search users can search for products, local businesses or even macros.
-
Features
-
Live Search features an option called Cash Back, which allows users to get cash back every time they shop online. Using the Cash Back page, users can search for products. When a purchase is made, the Live Search user earns back a percentage of the amount spent.
Benefits
-
One of the benefits of Live Search is the ability to view video snips without connecting to the site hosting the video. When "Video" is selected as the search type and a search term is entered, Live Search will present a page of thumbnails. The user can place the mouse pointer over a thumbnail and the video will play.
Fun Fact
-
Live Search's "XRank" feature tracks people in the public eye. A user can type in the name of their favorite celebrity and Live Search will present a rank, bio and even other related celebs.
