Job Description of an X-Ray Technician

An X-ray technician, or radiology technician, is responsible for obtaining valuable diagnostic information to assist doctors. This field is growing rapidly, and may provide many with stable employment in the industry. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, wages in the health care industry are projected to increase at a much higher than average through 2016 (see Resources).

    High Tech Equipment

  1. An X-ray technician is trained to manipulate X-ray equipment so that pictures of diseases or injuries can be captured and diagnosed.
  2. Environment

  3. Employment in this field exists in hospitals, doctors' offices, clinics, dental offices and nursing homes.
  4. Co-Workers

  5. X-ray technicians work alongside doctors, nurses and other health care personnel.
  6. Training Time Frame

  7. Although different levels of education are possible, basic training in this field can be accomplished in approximately 2 years at a trade school.
  8. Specialized Training

  9. Specialized training in this field will enable a radiology tech to perform sonograms, MRIs, and CAT scans or CT scans.
