Types of Drawing Pencils

Drawing is one of the basic crafts in the art world, and a very important one for all types of artists. It's also much more complicated than many people give it credit for. You just have to look at all the types of drawing pencils out there to see that. Each one creates a different line or color and adds to the overall depth of the drawing.

This pencil is made from a very hard lead. It is used for drawing details and for making lines that you may later want to erase easily.

This pencil has one of the softest leads available. In contrast to the 2H pencil, this one makes dark, wide lines that are great for sketching.

This is the most common pencil found and the one every elementary school kid owns. Every artist who likes to draw should also own one, as it can be used for the widest variety of lines and is a great all-around pencil.

Colored Pencils

Colored pencils are great for adding details in color to you drawing. They come in a wide range of colors, so if you are interested in drawing more than black and white, consider adding these to your art supply.

Watercolor Pencils

These kinds of pencils allow you to draw and mimic the strokes of watercolors. You just dip the pencil in water and draw.
