How Often Should the Dryer Glides Be Replaced?

  1. Wait Until They Need It

    • Dryer glides do wear out eventually and may cause problems. One symptom of worn dryer guides may be torn clothing that comes out of the dryer. Another symptom is rattling or noise at the front of the machine during the drying cycle. Replace the glides when problems begin.

    Use Preventive Maintenance

    • It may make sense to exercise preventive maintenance and replace the guides every three to five years as a precaution. It is not an extremely complicated task and can be done relatively quickly.

    Bottom Line

    • It makes sense to wait until there is a problem before tearing a dryer apart. Worn glides will do little to no damage initially, and dryers are not complicated machines, so they can be repaired easily when the need arises.
