How Long Should a Men's Suit Coat Be?

Take Measurements

Put on the coat and ask someone to measure the distance from the top of the neck to the bottom of the rear panel. Then, measure the bottom of the rear panel to the floor. These two measurements should be within two inches of each other.

Button Placement

The middle button on a three button coat or the top button on a two button coat should fall right at the man's waist.

Bottom Line

Whichever method you use to determine proper fit, the final decision should be based on how you feel in the coat. Look in the mirror to determine if the jacket is the right length for you. If you like the way the suit jacket looks on you, then wear it.
