Beauty Tips

Beauty is more than skin deep. What you do with your physical appearance, such as the way you wear your hair and apply your makeup, says so much about the person behind the face. The right hairstyle, eyeshadow, blush and lipstick can make a difference. Keep this in mind when you apply for a job, come in for an interview, make a presentation or are being photographed for your wedding.

Teens and 'tweens are currently crazy about the "Twilight" saga, thanks to a successful movie based on the novels by Stephenie Meyer. While the attractive vampire characters in the series may be the source of beauty inspiration for many these days--look up the online video tutorials fans have made and continue to make--vampires in general never seem to go out of style. Despite what appear to be moments of quiet in entertainment history, when the bloodsucking creatures are not too visible in the mainstream, it's only a matter of time before they reawaken in new books or films. If you are one of those who has always been fascinated with vampires or are simply appreciative of them during their current wave of popularity, you could extend your excitement into your makeup application as well. There is no need to look pale and almost-dead or otherworldly like vampires supposedly do; one example of a makeup look that effortlessly translates into some everyday life occasions is Akasha's from the movie "Queen of the Damned."

Celebrities don't always rely on dramatic looks to make them appear chic; while often very stunning on the red carpet and on the pages of beauty magazines, famous personalities sometimes also like makeup that leans towards the fresh and natural--rather than glamorous--side. One example is Lauren Conrad, who became famous after starring in the hit reality TV show, "The Hills."

Contrary to the funky, bold and bright eyeshadows and lip colors some popular celebrities wear, Lauren wears mostly neutral tones. While her eyeliner is heavy, she uses black, not shades like purple, blue or green. Her lips catch attention by being very glossy, but they are usually nude rather than a bright pink or red. What makes this sort of makeup stand out is how vibrant and dewy Lauren's skin looks. She relies largely on a smooth and glowing complexion to stand out in the crowd.

    • Kristen Stewart Makeup on 11/20/2009

If teens and 'tweens look towards celebrities close to their age for makeup inspiration, it only makes sense, as many younger starlets wear makeup that can be classified as fresh, not overdone and age-appropriate. There are exceptions, of course. For instance, Kristen Stewart, who has become famous through the "Twilight" saga movies, favors eyes that are sooty and dramatic. Despite the fact that Kristen is currently still a teenager, makeup like she often wears--such as at special events and on the pages of beauty magazines--would not seem out of place on the face of an older woman. After all, her dark eye makeup is more chic and sophisticated than innocent. Thus if you're looking for a new way to wear your makeup, there is no need to limit yourself to the trends worn by celebrities and models in your age range.

To get an idea of how you can apply your makeup like Kristen, take a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2G25dlmdA0
