KOA Camping in Georgia

KOA Camping in Georgia thumbnail
Georgia has a varied landscape for camping opportunities.

Find Southern hospitality in the diverse state of Georgia, a happy mix that combines the hustle and bustle of modern Atlanta with the picturesque charms of Savannah. Abundant water sports are available on the coastline, and wild horses run free at Cumberland National Seashore. Wherever you choose to vacation in Georgia, there is a KOA campground nearby, from the foothills of the north Georgia mountains to the outskirts of musical Macon and the azalea trails of Valdosta on the Florida border.

  1. Camping Options

    • Choose from sleeping under the stars in a tent to hooking up your RV under shade, or resting in relative luxury in a cabin at eight KOA campgrounds throughout Georgia. Calhoun KOA in the north Georgia mountains has sites for big rigs, deluxe cabins with cable TV and luxury lodges with cooking facilities. Savannah South KOA has one- and two-room cabins and a lakefront lodge as well as tent sites and spacious RV sites. Forsyth KOA near Macon has RV pull-through sites of up to 100 feet. All campgrounds feature 50-amp full hook-ups for RVs.

    Amenities

    • Amenities range from site to site, although all offer hot showers, laundry facilities and free Wi-Fi Internet access. Boaters will find boat storage facilities at Bainbridge KOA, while Calhoun has plenty of outdoor activities for the whole family, including horseshoes, basketball, mini golf and bikes to rent. Picturesque Tifton has a swimming pool open in the summer, playground and free fishing for bass and catfish in two catch-and-release ponds.

    Activities

    • In addition to the on-site activities, like the ball park, nature trails and wake boarding offered at Bainbridge/Flint River KOA, every campground is located close to dozens of opportunities for outdoor activities. Play a round of golf at one of the public courses close to Cartersville and Calhoun, or skydive at the Adventure Skydiving Center. Valdosta is a short 10-mile drive from the Wild Adventures water park with go-karts and miniature golf available. Play tennis, racquetball or work up a sweat at the cardiovascular gym in the YMCA at Bainbridge.

    Things to See

    • Explore Georgia's varied landscape from KOA campgrounds located within easy access of natural wilderness, rural trails or secluded beaches. From Savannah South KOA, it is a short trip to the beaches of Jekyll Island, Tybee and Hilton Head. Fort McAllister State Historic Park has miles of hiking and biking trails through a prehistoric Native American camp and hunt site. Explore the Cherokee National Capital at New Echota National Historical Site near Calhoun. Wander through the English-style Barnsley Gardens, or take the kids to the Tellus Museum with its four fascinating galleries, including Science in Motion.

    When to Go

    • All of Georgia's KOA campgrounds are open year-round, and the state's temperate climate means you are likely to enjoy warm weather most of the year in the South. The north, near Calhoun and Cartersville, can get very cold in the winter, however, with some storms and snow. Summers are hot and humid across the state and, with temperatures sometimes topping 100 degrees Fahrenheit, tent camping can be uncomfortable. Spring and fall are both pleasant, but watch out for tropical storms in the fall.
