Windsurfing Instructor Training
When people take lessons on how to windsurf they want it to come from a competent instructor. To ensure that the instructor is well qualified, training courses are offered from sailing schools that certify instructors that complete the course. Sailing schools teach the fundamentals of the sport so instructors are knowledgeable and can handle any situation that might arise while teaching.

Significance
-
Windsurfing instructor certifications aren't required to teach people how to windsurf but are strongly recommended to ensure a safe and effective environment for learning. Certifications from U.S. Sailing are valid for three years and at the end of that time the instructor can recertify as long as he still holds a CPR certification. Instructors must be at least 18 to be certified. Instructors can take classes at age 16, but won't receive an official certification and are classified as assistants.
Benefits
-
Many of the schools that offer certifications for windsurfing instructors offer discounts with business that partner with the schools. Many windsurfing instructors run their own business and can receive discounts on office supplies or safety equipment with their certification. Schools offer insurance coverage for their certified members helping in case there is a bodily injury while teaching. Without any insurance the instructor may be liable for any incidence that occurs while under their supervision. In order for instructors to receive the insurance they must be certified and hold a valid CPR certification.

Time Frame
-
The windsurfing class is offered to instructors that have first passed a four-day course on small boat sailing level one. Passing a course on small boat sailing allows them to take the windsurfing course level one. The windsurfing course is an intensive two-day course that covers the different skills needed to windsurf. The windsurfing course covers eleven different skills to the sport.
Identification
-
During the two days of training instructors will be educated on rigging, de-rigging, balancing, up hauling the sail, steering upwind and down wind, and many other techniques that they will then teach to future clients. Advanced courses are also available to teach higher level skills to continue educating returning clients. Classes are available throughout the country during the spring and summer months.
Misconceptions
-
Some of the courses won't be only on windsurfing; they will include boat sailing, water safety, self rescue and swimming in case their students aren't knowledgeable about those areas. Not only will having the certification from U.S. Sail allow an instructor to teach windsurfing but also small boat sailing.
