From oxygen-based to enzymatic action, products are available for almost any stain removal needs. It is possible to create your own stain removers from household items, but it's hard to beat the convenience of shelf-stable stain removal products manufactured and tested by well-known companies. These popular stain removers are among the most effective, low cost and readily available brands. Many manufacturers offer coupons either on their websites or in magazines and newspapers to further reduce the cost to the consumer.

Oxyclean

Oxyclean's active ingredient is sodium percarbonate, which works by releasing oxygen when it is mixed with water. Oxyclean works best on organic stains such as coffee, wine, grass or blood. It will not work on grease or oil-based stains. It is non-toxic and biodegradable and will not harm fabrics or surfaces.

Shout Laundry Stain Remover

Shout Laundry Stain Remover is available in spray liquid, gel or individually wrapped wipes. Shout contains enzymes and surfactants that work to loosen and lift stains so that they can be washed away in the laundry cycle. Shout works in any temperature water and is safe on most washable colorfast fabrics. Shout can remove both greasy and organic stains.

Resolve Spray and Wash

Resolve Spray and Wash is an enzymatic stain remover. It removes stains ranging from blueberries to blood to mud. It works in any temperature. Launder clothing immediately after pre-treating. Spray and Wash is not recommended for khaki or florescent fabric, but is safe on most other colorfast washables.

Tide To Go Pen

Tide To Go Pen is recommended for fresh food or drink stains. It is not intended for use on grass, blood or ink stains. Tide To Go is safe to use on most colorfast, machine washable and dry cleanable fabrics. Tide also makes Tide Stain Release, a laundry booster that is added to the washer along with your regular detergent. Tide Stain Release can be used in both regular and high efficiency washers.

Zout Laundry Stain Remover

Zout Laundry Stain Remover works even on set-in stains. Zout is available in liquid, spray or foam. It claims to have three different enzymes that target protein, starch and oily stain s. Zout Laundry Stain Remover is water-based, non-corrosive, non-flammable & biodegradable. Zout is safe for all colorfast washable fabrics.
