Beach Glass

When out at the beach, coming across sea glass or beach glass (clear or colored glass smoothed by the ocean waves) can be an interesting find. Many beaches prohibit taking shells or beach glass. Beach glass is considered beach property and should remain on the beach or in the ocean. If you are lucky enough to find some glass and are allowed to take it, it can make beautiful crafts to decorate your home, give as gifts or make just for fun.

  1. Jewelry

    • If you are knowledgeable about making your own jewelry, than beach glass is a way to have very unique and individualistic pieces. Since no two pieces of glass are the same, you are guaranteed to have a one of a kind piece of jewelry. Beach glass can be made into pendants, necklaces, earrings or bracelets. You can drill holes into the glass to string on jewelry wire, fishing line or thread to make necklaces and bracelets. Or you can use jewelry wire to wrap around the pieces of glass to make jewelry. For information on how to make your own jewelry, pick up step by step instruction guides at any craft store.

    Frames

    • Beach glass frames make perfect accents to casual rooms. Creating beach glass frames is a very simple project adults and kids can do. Take a plain wooden or glass frame and arrange the beach glass into a pattern, or pick the glass at random, and glue to the frame. Once the glue has dried, place a picture in the frame and give it as a gift or use it to decorate your house. You can do the same with candle holders and vases. Glue the beach glass to the outside of the candleholders or vases. Add grout in between the pieces of glass to make the pieces look more like mosaics.

    Lamp

    • If you have a large amount of beach glass you can decorate a lamp. If you buy a clear glass lamp that comes apart you can fill the inside with beach glass. If you do not have enough glass to fill the lamp all the way you can leave it half full, or fill the bottom half with sand. Also, if you add water to the inside of the lamp with the glass, it will make the glass appear shiny and more brightly colored.

    Wind Chimes

    • Beach glass can add a bit of color to plain wind chimes. Some wind chimes come with colorful creatures, scenes, or figures that usually sit on top of the chime set. For chimes that are simple and could use a bit of color, beach glass is a way to add it. Drill holes in the glass and tie fishing line from the beach glass to the top of the chimes. The glass will also add sound as the wind blows and they knock into the chimes.

    Decorations

    • Fill any fun-shaped bottle, glass, vase or bowl with beach glass. Make sure the bowl or vase you choose is clear so you can see the beach glass inside. You can mix the beach glass colors or keep them segregated, and you can fill containers with different amounts to put around your home.
