Qualcomm released a memo titled "The QCP File Format and Media Types for Speech Data" in September 2003, to provide information on this file format for the Internet community.

QCP is a form of QCELP compressed audio. Qualcomm developed this format in 1994 to increase speech quality. QCELP is a type of speech codec.
