Electric Razors: Braun vs. Norelco

Braun and Norelco are both well-known manufacturers of shaving products for men. Each makes a top-of-the-line electric razor with a variety of special features and benefits, yet Braun's electric razors differ from those of Norelco's. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. The Options

    • Braun offers four variations of electric razor: the Series 1, 3, 5 and 7, with the 7 being the most advanced and highest-priced option. Meanwhile, Norelco features the Arcitec, the Nivea for Men, the 8200 series, and the 7000 series. The Arcitec is Norelco's top-of-the-line shaver, while the 7000 series is its most affordable.

    The Blades

    • Braun's electric razors feature precision comfort blades that trim hair close to the skin without causing discomfort or irritation. The blades on many of Braun's razors also have a three-stage cutting system that cuts long hair and stubble, each blade getting closer to the skin. All blades are made of a very thin foil.

The blades in Norelco's electric razors also feature a precision cutting system for a close and comfortable shave. Many of Norelco's razors also feature triple-track shaving heads much like Braun's three-state cutting system. Several models include Speed-XL shaving heads, and all of Norelco's razors are corrosion-free.

    Other Features

    • Many of Braun's razors include a power-comb feature that lifts hairs to the surface, a contour-hugging head, and a self-cleaning feature. The 7 series includes pulsonic technology with a head that turns at over 10,000 micro-vibrations per minute to help provide the closest possible shave.

Norelco's razors feature Flex & Pivot action to help cover contoured areas and avoid missing patches of hair. Several come with a jet precision tube trimmer for trimming areas like sideburns and mustaches. Most have a self-cleaning system as well, and the Nivea for Men dispenses shave gel as it shaves.

    Price

    • Braun's electric razors range from $269.99 for the Series 7 to $59.99 for the Series 1, while Norelco's razors range from $249.99 for the Arcitec to $49.99 for the 7000 series.

    Where to Buy

    • Both Braun and Norelco razors can be purchased online from websites like Amazon, often for discounted prices. Both are also carried in stores like Target, Best Buy and Kohl's.
