ActiveX Vs. Flash

Among Internet addicts, the best way to feed their addiction has become viewing videos and movies online. Among the most popular video software used, Adobe Flash and ActiveX have become the leaders.

  1. Adobe Flash Player

    • According to an Oct. 15, 2009 Adobe press release, they have released the 10th Edition of Flash Player. Flash Player is downloaded for free and is installed as a plugin for your Internet browser. The video and movie data are then transported to this player, depending on your connection speed. The faster your connection speed the better the quality of the data transmitted.

    ActiveX

    • According to Microsoft, ActiveX connects components of its Internet Explorer browsers. Internet Explorer also allows ActiveX to control navigation of its web page, and filters what is allowed to download.

    Flash for Developers

    • According to Adobe, Flash is not just for viewing videos. If you are a graphic designer or web developer, you can use flash to design graphical images used in animation to install on your web pages. You can also combine features from the Adobe Creative Suit with Flash to create other IT related projects.

    ActiveX in Programming

    • According to Microsoft, while ActiveX is not a development language itself but instead a collective resource sharing communications technology, it can be used in programming. And as such it can be used in the creation of programs designed in the C++, Visual Basic, and Visual Basic.NET. Such programming consists of Windows applications created on Visual Studio and the like.

    ActiveX and Flash

    • Instead of choosing one over the other, you can use both. They are both used on multiple platforms, and they not constricted to just one operating system when used in design. So instead of interfering with one another, they actually complement each other allowing developers to combine them and their technologies.
