Processor
-
Computer performance speed is determined by the speed of its processor. In case of Windows Server 2000, you would need a 133 MHz or higher frequency Pentium CPU. Only four processors per computer are supported by the system.
RAM
-
The multi-tasking ability of an operating system heavily depends on the size of RAM (random access memory) a computer has. The larger the RAM, the faster computer is. You would need at least 128 MB of memory to run the system. However, the recommended size is 256 MB. The maximum level of RAM is 4 GB.

Hard Disk Drive
-
Hard disk size determines the amount of data you can store. In this case the minimum 1 GB of free hard disk space is required for the setup of Windows Server 2000. However, you might need even more space depending on a few factors, including the number of components you want to install, the file system used, networking or CD-ROM installation and any future upgrades.
Peripheral Devices
-
You would need a VGA or higher-resolution monitor, a keyboard and preferably a mouse.
CD-ROM Installation
-
You would need a CD drive or a DVD drive if you are installing the operating from a disk. However, if, for some reason, your computer does not support the start-up of the installation from a CD-ROM, then you would need to use a high-density 3.5-inch disks and a high-density 3.5-inch disk drive.
Network Installation
-
If you decide to install the operating system from a network, you would need a network adapter compatible with Windows Server 2000. You would also need at least one server on the network with the Setup files.
