Mystic Tan FAQ
Mystic Tan is the new safe-tanning craze that is taking the hassle of applying self tanners and the dangers of sun cancer out of the tanning process. It is offered in salons and spas. Mystic Tan is a process of applying sunless tanning mist by airbrushing with a machine rather than by an individual applying the mist. According to Mystic Tan, the process results in even coverage of the entire area where a tan is desired. Does this Spark an idea?

How It Works
-
The Mystic Tan process is similar to taking your car to a car wash. For best results, exfoliate your skin in the shower before you go. This allows the dead skin to be removed and allows your skin to tan more evenly.
Before getting in the booth, you will be instructed on how to stand while the sprayers pass over you. Follow these instructions closely so that the mist is applied evenly. Prior to going in the booth, you will apply a lotion or blending cream to areas that might soak up the tanning mist, such as fingernails, elbows, knees and other parts you don't want the mist to unevenly soak into.
After your session, wait at least four hours before bathing.
What Is It?
-
Mystic Tan is a sunless tanning mist that is composed of DHA, which is a fatty acid, and moisturizers. According to Medicinenet.com, DHA reacts with dead skin cells, producing a brown or tan color. These skin cells are shed through bathing, as they would be normally. This means that the tan will fade over time as a suntan would.

What to Do
-
As previously mentioned, before going for a Mystic Tan, exfoliate the skin to bring fresh skin cells to the surface and create an even tanning area.
During the tan, you will apply the blending lotion before entering the booth. You can tan without clothes, or wearing undergarments or a swimsuit, but the mist may stain clothing. Hair is normally covered with a hair net, but the solution does not soak into hair and is easily washed out. Some salons offer eye coverings or suggest you close your eyes, but the solution has not been show to cause eye irritations in tests, according to the Mystic Tan website.
Following your session, towel off the remaining mist and blending lotion. Wait the recommended four hours to bathe, and afterward apply moisturizer to extend your tan.
When and How Often?
-
If you're tanning for a vacation or special event, Mystic tanning should be done a few days to a week earlier. To maintain your tan, the frequency depends on your skin. The suggestion is about every five days, but some people can go as long as 10 days. It all depends on your skin, and your bathing, exfoliating and moisturizing.
