Cancer Fighting Diet
A healthy diet can be instrumental in keeping you cancer-free. According to the National Cancer Institute approximately 1/3 of all cancer deaths can be attributed to an unhealthy diet. The Cancer Cure Foundation claims on its website that many healthy food selections will not only help reduce the possibility of contracting cancer, but could possibly shrink tumors.

Along with a very healthy diet, there are some other things you can do to lessen the chances of you contracting cancer during your lifetime. If you smoke, quit today, or even better, never start smoking. Keep your weight down to what is healthy for your age, sex and height. Protect yourself from ultraviolet rays from the sun with sunscreen. If there have been many cases of cancer in your family, that is even more reason for you to do all you can to prevent it. Some forms of cancer have been linked to heredity, according to the American Cancer Society.
Fruits and Vegetables

To armor your body against cancer, plant food is number one for the best nutrition. Select the brightest and most colorful fruits and vegetables for consumption. Cruciferous vegetables have many cancer fighting components, and these vegetables are broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale and brussel sprouts. Eat your vegetables raw or steamed for the most vitamins. Enjoy the sweet taste of fruits like berries, melons, peaches, grapes and kiwis. The ACS recommends five servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

Protein

Protein is necessary for regenerating cells and optimum health. Choose low fat cuts of meat, skinless chicken breasts and eat fish two to three times a week which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Bake, broil or barbecue your meat. If available and the budget allows buy hormone free meats. Try some vegetarian protein for a change. Legumes such as chickpeas, black beans and lentils are rich in protein with none of the cholesterol. Tofu is a great substitute for meat and an tasty addition to many stir fry dishes.
Spices

According to the Cancer Cure Foundation, garlic contains allum compounds that appear to support the immune system. Turmeric, the bright yellow spice that is a part of curry, helps fight cancer. For those of you who love very "hot" foods, hot chile and jalapeno peppers contain capsaicin, which is believed to be a cancer fighting agent. Rosemary, a very pungent spice, may also help in the fight against cancer.
