Different Types of Vista OS
As of September 2009, Windows Vista is the latest version of the Windows operating system by Microsoft, although release of the new Windows 7 version is scheduled for October 22, 2009. Vista comes in four different versions, each designed with your needs in mind.
Whether you run a business or need to create DVDs with your favorite movies or simply need a comprehensive operating system for your netbook, Windows Vista has a solution. All four versions come equipped with efficient built-in firewall, Internet Explorer 7 and Network Sharing Center. All of the other features are incorporated in each edition according to its intended use.
-
Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
-
Vista Ultimate includes numerous features for business and home users, and is the most advanced version. It includes such features as Windows Defender and Firewall, Internet Explorer 7, Windows Meeting Place, Windows Media Center and Media Center Extenders (for use throughout the house), Windows DVD Maker and Movie Maker. These features are oriented for home users who need an entertainment center on their PCs to record DVDs and HD movies, for example.
Ultimate version also includes Windows Fax and Scan, Remote Desktop Connection and Network Sharing Center. These features were developed for small home-based businesses or larger companies to use. Remote Desktop Connection, for example, allows a user to connect to her work PC from home and complete a job in the comfort of her own house.
Windows Vista Business Edition
-
The Business edition of Vista is oriented for use in a business environment and does not have the entertainment features of the Ultimate, such as Windows Media Center, Windows DVD Maker or Movie Maker.
Small and large businesses alike can use this version of Vista to send and receive faxes right on the desktop via Windows Fax and Scan, set up online conference meetings and remotely connect to any PC on the network.
-
Windows Vista Premium Home Edition
-
The Premium Home edition retains the entertainment features of the Ultimate for home use, such as Windows DVD Maker, Movie Maker and Media Center. However, some of the business features of the operating system are omitted, such Fax and Scan, Remote Desktop Connection and Complete PC Backup and Restore.
Premium Home Vista is strictly oriented for home use and provides many useful features for home entertainment. You can communicate with your friends all over the world using Windows Messenger instant messaging software, play back movies, record DVDs and set up a home entertainment system.
Windows Vista Basic Edition
-
The Basic edition of Windows Vista is not oriented for either extensive business or entertainment use. Out of all the additional features of the other versions, it only has Windows Defender and Firewall, Internet Explorer 7 and Network Sharing Center. However, this version would work well for a netbook computer user, whose primary mission is web surfing or online work.
Conclusion
-
Until the release of Windows 7 in fall 2009, Vista remains the operating system with which modern PCs come equipped. Each version of Vista is highly efficient in either the home or business environment. The version you need most comes preinstalled on your new computer prior to purchase and is smartly tailored to serve you in those situations in which you find yourself most frequently--whether you're conducting a video conference call online or enjoying homemade movies.
