What Are the Top 10 Acoustic Guitars?

There are many different types of guitars, and all of them come with their ups and downs. It is important to consider the guitar that is best for you before making an expensive purchase. When making this decision, there are a few things to ponder. What type of music will you be playing? What is your playing style? How much are you willing to spend? Also, you should always play a guitar before you buy it. Of course the guitar that is best for you is a matter of opinion, but to help you narrow down your search I have listed my top 10 favorite acoustic guitars in no particular order. I've also described a little about each of them.

  1. Yamaha F Series and Takamine EG

    • You cannot beat the quality of the Yamaha F-Series for it's price. It is the perfect beginner guitar. It has a great tone and great playability. It is not as great as the other guitars on this list, but it is by far the best value. You can usually find one for around $200 or less.

The Takamine EG's are acoustic/electric guitars though they are at their best when they are not plugged in. This is another very reasonably priced instrument, and it sounds better than many guitars that sell for more than twice its value. The tone is extraordinary and the instrument has a low action so it's easy to play.

The Washburn Southwest Series and the Seagull S6

    • The Washburn Southwest Series offers other reasonably priced guitars, and the level of quality for the price is practically unmatched. It sounds good both plugged and unplugged. A maple top means deep tones and the neck is great for players without an enormous reach.

The Seagull S6 guitars are not just a great value, they are also some of the best sounding instruments I have ever played. Also the design is beautiful. It has a tremendous volume and a unique shape. The price is unbelievable for the level of quality this guitar provides. You can usually find one for around $400.

The Larrivee D-60 and The Cordoba Solista Flamenca

    • The Larrivee D-60 features a solid spruce top, so it has a very balanced sound with great highs, lows and mids. It uses thin bracing and a thin top which is partly what give it such a beautiful sound, but it also means it is not very durable. It is great if your playing bluegrass or traditional music. Cordoba is a well known maker of classical guitars. Their greatest creation is the Solista Flamenca. It is ideal for classical and flamenco styles. It has a great resonance and a functional fret board, which makes it easier to play.

    Taylor DN and Gibson J-45

    • DN is short for dreadnought, which is a style of guitar body. Nobody does dreadnoughts better than Taylor. It is not cheap. It will run you at least $1,000, but once you play it you will know where the extra money went. This is a fabulous sounding guitar.

The Gibson J-45 is also a great guitar. Though Gibson is typically known for its electrics, the J-45 shows that it can do acoustics well, too. It has great tone and playability. Unfortunately, it is a little overpriced, but the Gibson brand has been around since 1902 so it's value will most likely appreciate.

Martin D28 and Taylor Grand Auditorium.

    • Martin, like Gibson, is a brand with a rich history. The D-28 is one of there most popular models and there's a reason for it. It is a beautiful full sound that carries. The acoustics inside the guitar are fantastic.

This list is in no particular order the Taylor Grand Auditorium is definitely my No. 1. Every note played on this guitar demands to be heard. It has great highs, lows and mids. It is loud when played hard and has a sweet gentle sound when played softly. You will never want to put this instrument down.
