Satellite Internet Speeds Vs. DSL

Satellite Internet service has improved over the years, but its speeds are still slower than DSL. The upload speed will always be slower than the download. High winds, snow, and rain can affect your satellite Internet services. DSL will cost less, ranging from $20 to $60 per month. However, if you're uploading a large file, you'll likely experience problems because it consumes a large amount of bandwidth, which can create a bottleneck. As a result, DSL providers restrict the bandwidth.

    • You can rest assure that your satellite Internet service will run smoothly. That's because you must have professional installation because of the transmitter part. Installing satellite Internet will take approximately two to three hours. DSL, on the other hand, will usually provide you with self-installation kits. The technician might still have to come out and install and configure wiring. It usually takes approximately an hour or less to get the DSL service up and running.

    • Satellite Internet used to have two types of transmission: one-way and two-way. One-way only consisted of downloading data. When uploading data, you would have to use dial-up service. Now, satellite Internet service provides two-way service, in which you use the satellite for uploading and downloading data. Before DSL became widely available, individuals and businesses relied on ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). However, this technology is not as reliable and affordable as DSL.
