Herbs That Are Good for the Skin

  1. Aloe Vera

    • Massage aloe vera gel into your skin to help maintain its flexibility. Aloe also helps with acne and oily skin problems. Aloe has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties that help with skin disorders. This herb softens and moisturizes the skin. Mix aloe vera with vitamin E oil or a lightweight moisturizer to prevent dry skin.

    Chamomile

    • Pour 1 qt. of boiling water over a quarter-cup of dried chamomile leaves in a large bowl. Lean over the bowl and drape a towel over your head to trap the steam. Hold this position for 10 minutes. Once done, rinse your skin with warm water and then splash it with cold water. This soothes and cleanses your face. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties. Do not use chamomile if you are allergic to ragweed, a close relative.

    Comfrey

    • Add a half-cup of fresh comfrey to 1 cup of boiling water. Let steep for 10 minutes. Use this herbal tea to wash your face. Comfrey soothes and softens skin. It heals by promoting the growth of new skin cells. You can add it to lotions and creams to add comfrey to your daily routine.

    Peppermint

    • Puree 1 cup of fresh peppermint leaves in 2 cups cold water in a blender. Store in a jar. Use this peppermint water to dab on the face. This stimulates and tightens the skin. Peppermint will leave your skin feeling fresh and tingling.

    Tea Tree Oil

    • Apply tea tree oil directly to the skin. Tea tree oil has disinfectant and antifungal properties that are good for clearing up acne, insect bites and athlete's foot. Stop using it if your skin seems irritated.
