Is Tweezing Bad?
Tweezing is one of many methods for the temporary removal of unwanted hair. Relatively speaking, tweezing is inexpensive and fast, although the risk of a mediocre job is higher, depending upon how much experience one has with this type of hair removal. While tweezing hair is not inherently bad, there are certain considerations and risks that should be contemplated before deciding on this choice for yourself. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Cost
-
The cost of tweezing is relatively inexpensive when compared to laser hair removal, depilatories, waxing and electric shavers. A pair of quality tweezers may cost anywhere from $5 to $50, with a positive correlation existing between price and quality.
Time Commitment
-
The time it will take to tweeze unwanted body hair depends on the area and speed of hair growth. Because tweezing is not a permanent way to remove hair, the action must be repeated on a regular basis (at least once a week) for proper maintenance.
-
Pain
-
For those who do not tweeze often or ever, doing so can be painful. Take your time while tweezing, so you do not accidentally pinch your skin instead of the hair; this can be especially painful when tweezing sensitive areas.
Ingrown Hairs
-
Tweezing thick hair follicles can result in ingrown hairs. These may cause redness, slight swelling and even scarring in more severe cases. Using a mild exfoliant on the skin where hair has been tweezed can help guard against the formation of ingrown hairs.
Sterilization
-
One of the most important things to remember when tweezing is sterilization. Always clean your tweezers with hot soap and water between uses before using them, to prevent infection of the skin, eye and other sensitive areas. It is also wise to avoid sharing your tweezers with other people.
