What Supplies Does One Need for a Salon?
You have rented a location and hired staff members. Now it is time to purchase supplies for your new salon, but you are unsure of where to begin. The materials you must purchase will depend largely on the services that you salon specializes in. However, there are also supplies that any beauty salon must have in order to provide clients with a satisfactory experience.
-
Waxing
-
Salons that offer waxing services should carry a large supply of depilatory wax and cloth strips for removing wax. The salon must have enough wax heating units and application spatulas for each staff member. Tweezers are also necessary. Finally, baby oil and pain relieving post-depilatory lotions are important products to have handy for use at the end of each session, as well as small wash clothes for clients to clean themselves with.
Massage and Facials
-
Salons specializing in massage should ensure that each private room or station is equipped with a massage table and has enough linens and towels to cover the table, providing a comfortable environment for the client. Each station also needs a stock of massage stones and aromatherapy oils. Salons that offer facial services should make sure to have plenty of creams, toners, scrubs and other materials needed for face masks and peels.

Manicures and Pedicures
-
Each station at a nail salon should be stocked with cotton, nail polish remover, moisturizer, cans of nail dry and a set of nail tools that includes a nail file, clippers and cuticle scissors. The salon should also have several autoclaves for sterilizing nail tools after each use. The salon's reception area should display a polish rack, stocked with a variety of colors, in a visible place that provides enough room for several customers to browse the rack at once.
Hair Styling
-
A hair salon must have a full stock of styling products such as hairspray, gel and mousse. Each sink must have conditioner and shampoo, which should be the all-purpose variety that can adequately prepare any client's hair for other treatments. Each station should have a container of sanitizing concentrate for sterilizing combs, brushes, scissors and hair clips after each use.
In addition, the salon must have enough tools such as curling irons, rollers and frosting caps for each stylist. Hair salons should have a cupboard for storing hair dyes and bleaches, keeping them away from heat in order to prevent chemical reactions that ruin such products.
Universal Supplies
-
There are certain basic supplies that are required regardless of the type of salon you are running. Every salon should have economy-sized cleaning supplies such as window and drain cleaners, sponges, a mop and broom. These supplies should be placed into a plastic container that has either handles or wheels for easy transportation when cleaning the salon floor and bathrooms. In addition, any salon should have disinfectant at each station so that the staff can keep the surfaces surrounding work areas sanitized. Finally, salons should have washing and drying machines for cleaning towels and smocks.
