Prostate Cancer begins in the prostate gland. It is a common adenocarcinoma (glandular cancer) in men, and the risk of prostate cancer increases with age. In most instances, the symptoms of prostate cancer are noticed by the patient after the cancer has spread beyond the prostate gland. So it is suggested that men over 50 get their PSA levels checked once a year. Men with blood relatives that have been diagnosed with prostate cancer should get checked starting at 40.

Orthodox treatments for prostate cancer include surgery and/or radiation. However, some sources speculate that other forms of treatment can also be helpful. According to cancertutor.com, if the cancer has spread beyond the prostate, surgery will be of limited value. Cancer of the prostate is slow to multiply. So if the cancer is still contained within the prostate, it is better, some say, to treat it with alternative methods.

With any kind of cancer, diet is a vital part of the treatment process. It's important to pay attention not only to what you eat but also what you don't eat. Minimize or discontinue the use of any pig meats, tobacco, mushrooms, corn, cashews, barley, alcohol, dairy products, eggs, stored grains or potatoes, sugar, vinegar, yeast, caffeine, soda, high-fructose fruits, dried fish, processed white salt, and hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. Recommended foods include green vegetables such as broccoli and asparagus, wheatgrass juice, avocados, and natural spring water. Alternative cancer treatments have become popular because they claim to offer a quick fix. The pushers of alternative treatments say that the FDA, AMA and Congress are in bed together for the sake of the profits of the pharmaceutical companies. They claim natural treatments are being pushed back because they cannot be patented and therefore cannot create profits. Many of the alternative treatments available are expensive and seem to be attempts to take advantage of desperate people in a desperate situation. I suggest thoroughly researching all options before making strong financial commitments.

Dr. Jim Howenstine invented the LifeOne Protocol cancer treatment, which supposedly is effective in treating prostate cancer. LifeOne Protocol is considered a stage IV cancer treatment, which is the highest rating for an alternative cancer treatment. The treatment is essentially a combination of a low glycemic diet, the use of DeAromatase, correcting hormone imbalances, and treating fungal infections. However, Jim Howenstine has relocated to Costa Rica to escape prosecution and has been heavily criticized by other members of the medical community. I suggest taking his treatment ideas with a grain of salt. The treatments cost $600 and $900 upfront and then between $300 and $400 a month.
