Finger Food Ideas

Hosting any kind of gathering means, well, gathering food for your guests to eat. One of the easiest ways to impress your guests with lots of different food items is to come up with some finger food ideas. Below, you will find numerous tips, tricks and concepts that will help to make your party a smashing success. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Why Finger Foods?

    • Since perhaps the dawn of time, humans have enjoyed eating with their hands. From chicken wings to subs, most people just can't get enough of foods that can be consumed without fork or knife. The only problem is trying to come up with finger foods that haven't been created before. Then again, fashioning a new food upon a much loved classic dish is just the sort of thing that your guests will rave about. Begin by considering the types of people that will be at your gathering. Will you have to cater to any specific diet needs? If so, make sure to write down theses details first. Then, proceed with some irresistible snack ideas.

    Popular Finger Foods

    • Almost everyone will love a creative platter filled with lots of sandwiches. Stuff sandwiches will all kinds of meats, cheese and different kinds of salad (egg, tuna or chicken). If you want to turn those sandwiches up a notch, try cutting each sandwich into a unique shape using a cookie cutter. Other popular finger foods include chips and dip, veggies and dip, fruit, cheese and the ever-popular chicken finger. If there will be kids around, consider adding a few hotdog bites, grilled cheese or other kid-friendly food to your buffet.

    Visual Appeal

    • Have you ever noticed how a sloppy dish also equates a dish that you don't want to eat? Most of us eat with our eyes, so make sure that all of your dishes look fantastic. If you aren't sure how to dress up those meatballs, here are some great presentation ideas. Place sandwiches upon a tiered cake stand. Add crackers and trail mix to cupcake wrappers (easier for guests to handle). Stick toothpicks into every bite sized snack, and place the packaged items upon presentable trays--the ideas are endless. Remember--if it looks good, then your guests will love it.

    Simple Snacks

    • If you don't have the time to whip up homemade goodies, consider purchasing a large try assortment from your local grocery store. Also, large stores (such as Costco) often prepare party platters that are appealing and delicious. If you want to fake all the work, simply place those store prepared treats upon an assortment of smaller and larger plates and platters--nobody will know the difference. If you really want to go the extra mile, you can always add your own signature touch to each dish, but that is up to you.

    Considerations

    • If you aren't sure about various diet concerns, make sure to have foods that everyone can eat. Consider adding some sugar-free snacks, vegetarian snacks, gluten-free snacks and low salt snacks to your spread. This way, all of your guests will be able to enjoy the food that you have prepared. Additionally, those guests with special dietary needs will be very grateful that you thought of their needs. When it comes to entertaining, it is best to have all kinds of bases covered (this goes for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks too).
