About Jogging Routines

Jogging is a way that many people get their daily exercise. It improves your cardiovascular health, increases leg strength and can help you lose weight. One reason people choose jogging as their form of exercise is because there are limitless routines based on where you live and your overall health goals. These jogging routines can be a fun way to enjoy the outdoors and get into shape.

  1. Types

    • Jogging routines can be performed both inside and outside. Routines done outside are normally determined by one of three things:
Location: You can run either at or to a specific place. This can be because of the scenery (such as around the park) or just because there is a lot of open space in that area.
Time: You can jog for a set amount of time (such as 30 minutes). During this routine, you can run wherever you want with no predestined location in mind. When the time is up, you simply walk or jog back home.
Distance: You can measure your workout by how far you run (such a 1 mile). This is often done at an outdoor track.
Indoor jogging routines are performed either at a gym or indoor track. These routines are either timed or distance workouts.

    Features

    • Most jogging routines have different stages. The first part of the jog is an average pace to get warmed up. During the middle of the jog, you increase your speed for a more rigorous workout. As the jog comes to an end, you slow your pace to cool down. This can be altered at your discretion.
Jogging routines completed on a treadmill can actually be set on the machine. During these routines, the incline and speed of the treadmill changes, thus changing the difficulty of the workout.

    Benefits

    • Jogging offers numerous health benefits. People who jog 30 minutes a day three times a week can lose weight as well as lower their blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Jogging of any kind also increases your upper- and lower-leg strength. Additionally, the more you jog, the longer you can do so without getting tired. Many people also jog as a way to release stress. Jogging outdoors allows you to enjoy the outdoors in your town or city and even explore new places.

    Warnings

    • Jogging alone has health benefits, but your routine should also be accompanied with a healthy diet. You won't lose much weight if you're eating fast food after every jog. It's always wise to contact your doctor before beginning any new exercise program. You should also spend 5 to 10 minutes stretching your back and legs before and after every jog. Otherwise, you could increase the risks of getting injured while jogging.

    Expert Insight

    • Many people lose interest in jogging and thus stop doing it after a while. To avoid this, spruce up your workouts with different routines. Drive 10 to 15 miles out of the away and jog in a new area you're not familiar with. If you jog at the gym, purchase a media player that has a video screen. You can then download and watch your favorite TV shows during your jogging routine. This will make the workout seem like it is being completed more quickly and will keep you from getting bored with jogging.
