    Necklaces have been created since prehistoric times. Jewelry has always seemed to be a popular accessory in an individual's lifestyle. Back in prehistoric days, instead of beads, necklaces were often created with bones and shells. During the ancient Egyptian period, gold collars were worn by the wealthy. In Greece, during B.C. times, pendants and gold jewelry were worn. After the first century, Romans then began to wear with jewelry created with gemstones. Indians also created a lot of their own jewelry, which consisted of semi precious stones, silver beads and had a variety of beads that were styled from the different regions that they came from.

Popular trends in the early twenty-first century have been bigger necklace usually made up of large round beads along with smaller size beads that are strung around the neck. Beaded necklaces have been layered together to create a certain type of style to match an outfit. Other beaded necklaces are more intricate created with seed beads or smaller pearls. These are often worn with more elegant outfits or dresses. Bigger necklaces are often worn more casually as smaller ones are for business or special occasions.

  5. There are many types of beaded necklaces. Some of them include bead and wire, bead and fiber, lariat and seed beads. Colors come from almost any spectrum of the rainbow. Bead and wire necklaces are created with beads, and the wire being formed into different shapes and designs. Sometimes the wire has even been wrapped around the beads, calling this type of style-wire wrapped. Wire can be purchased as sterling silver, or silver-toned. Bead and fiber necklaces are often made with colored ribbon or other types of fabric material. It can be knotted, frayed, or even the beads spaced out from one another. Bead and fiber necklaces have just recently become popular styles to wear.

  7. The main function of any beaded necklace is to showcase style and flair. Sometimes, beaded necklaces can be created with those who have disabilities or if they are diabetic. Individuals may wear hand created stylish necklaces that have special pendants that let others know if they are diabetic or have heart problems. Young girls grow up sorting through their mother's jewelry, looking for that perfect necklace. Beaded jewelry can be used to work for elegant or casual occasions. Many of those who design crafts have also began creating jewelry to sell as a side business.

  9. Take special care with your beaded necklaces. They must be stored in places where they can not be stretched or broken. Do not let small children play with the jewelry, as it could be broken and they could swallow or choke on the bead parts. With the special proper care of a beaded necklace, it can often be passed on from generation to generation as a family heirloom.
