The history of this beverage goes back over 500 years to the Capuchin order of friars. During 1525, this group played a role in bringing back Catholicism to Reformation Europe. The word "Capucin" means cowle or hood in Italian, and was invented in Italy around 1901. The beverage was served in the early 1900s at cafes and restaurants and was improved upon after World War II. It became more popular during the late 1990s when many coffee shops around the world started serving it on a regular basis.
