About Selling iPods
Apple iPods are one of the most popular MP3 players around, and with so many of them being bought, many people will sell their own. Reasons differ for selling an iPod and could range anywhere from being short on cash to looking to get an upgrade to not needing an MP3 player. If you are selling your iPod, there are many things you should consider before actually putting it up for sale.

The first thing you need to figure out is how you want to sell you iPod. Local places like yard sales, flea markets, and pawn shops are all great sources, but they could end up getting you less money than you intended. To keep the sale safe and confident, you could sell the iPod to a friend or family member, but owed money could put a damper on relationships. The Internet is a common place to sell electronics. You could sell it at a classified website like Craigslist.org or an auction website like eBay.com. Unfortunately, personal sellers cannot sell an iPod on Amazon.com.
Function
-
If you are selling an iPod on eBay, you should format your auction in a particular way so bidders know it is legitimate. First, take a well-lit and original picture of the iPod you are selling. Make this picture a gallery picture so that when users are searching for iPods, they can see yours before even clicking on an auction.
Write a short history of your iPod, detailing how often it was used and if there are any problems with it. Set a reasonable shipping price and a starting price at over $50. Do the same thing for any other online classified ads. There are scammers in every form, and you do not want potential buyers skipping over your ad if it does not look legitimate. -
Considerations
-
When you are selling your iPod, you should clear everything off of it so new purchasers cannot access your personal information and music. The easiest way to do this is by formatting the iPod completely. When attached to a Windows computer, go to "My Computer," right-click on the device and select the option that says "Format...". From there, you should do a complete format and rename the iPod to something like "iPod" or "Default." Test the iPod to make sure that everything has been removed properly.
Warning
-
When selling an iPod at any internet source, you should be wary of potentially dishonest buyers. If you get a purchase price or offer that is way above the retail iPod price, then you should avoid this buyer at all costs. It is commonly a scam and you could lose your iPod plus hundred of dollars in the process and be left with nothing.
Prevention/Solution
-
If someone has purchased an iPod from you and you are shipping it, you should take the most care you can when sending the iPod. Wrap the iPod in bubble wrap, and then cushion the package with newspaper or packing peanuts. Because it is so expensive, you should also get shipping insurance and delivery confirmation on the package.
