Video of the Day
Using the cookie cutters, cut out gingerbread men and scissors. Re-roll the remaining dough and cut out more pieces. You'll need at least four gingerbread men to recreate the tethered paper cutout from the movie.
Tip
To minimize sticking while cutting the dough, dip the cookie cutter into flour.
Bake according to your recipe's directions. Let the cookies cool completely.
Roll Out Your Red Fondant
Roll out the red fondant on parchment paper or a silicone mat.
Cut Out the Gingerbread Men
Cut out gingerbread men cookie shapes. Re-roll the remaining fondant and cut out more pieces.
Apply the Frosting
Spread a light layer of frosting onto each gingerbread man cookie. This will help "glue" the fondant to the cookie.
Add the Red Fondant
Add the red fondant, gently pressing to evenly spread it across the cookie. Repeat with the remaining gingerbread men cookies. Set aside.
Roll Out the Gold Fondant
Roll out the gold fondant on parchment paper or a silicone mat.
Cut out scissor shapes. Again, you can re-roll the leftover fondant and cut out more pieces.
Using the small oval cookie cutter, cut out two ovals in the scissors' handles. You can also use a knife to slice out ovals.
Spread the Frosting
Spread a light layer of frosting onto each scissors cookie.
Add the Gold Fondant
Add the gold fondant to the cookie, gently pressing to spread it evenly. Next, using the paintbrush, apply a bit of water to the center of the fondant.
Press a gold sequin sprinkle to the center of the cookie. Repeat with the remaining scissors cookies. Now is when you get to start your cookie decorating in earnest.
Pair these cookies with a Halloween movie night, at a costume party or on any crisp autumn day.
