The Mitsubishi Galant has been sold in the U.S. since the late 1960s, although it was originally called the Colt Galant and the Dodge Galant, before the brand settled the name in 1973. With such a lengthy history, it would be impossible to cover door panel removal for every Mitsubishi Galant model. Instead, the provided instructions are for the two most recent body styles, the 1999 to 2003 Galant and the 2004 to 2009 Galant.
1999 to 2003 Galant
Disconnect the negative battery cable and gather your tools to complete the procedure. Removing the door panel from the 1999 to 2003 Galant will require a Phillips screwdriver and a flathead screwdriver. A door trim panel tool is not needed.
Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the four-door panel retaining screws. You will find two screws on each side of the door panel. The screws closest to the front of the vehicles are located on the upper portion of the door handle, right below the side view mirror.
Remove the screw inside of the coin holder on the door lock/power window panel. Then, pry the panel off with the flathead screwdriver. Unhook the two wiring modules from behind the panel. One is for the power window and one is for the door lock.
Remove the screw behind the interior door handle. Once the screw is removed, pull the interior door handle open and slide the cover away from the door panel.
Once the panels and screws are removed, push up on the entire door panel to disengage the hooks, and then carefully pull the door panel off.
2004 to 2009 Galant
Disconnect the negative battery cable before you begin. Gather the tools needed to remove the door panel. Removing the door panel in the 2004 to 2009 Galant requires a door trim panel tool, a flathead screwdriver and a Phillips head screwdriver.
Use the flathead screwdriver to pry off the small plastic cover at the bottom edge of the door panel. Remove the Phillips screw from behind the cover. Pry off the door courtesy light lens (red) towards the rear of the door panel.
Remove the Phillips screws from the arm rest and the interior door handle. Insert the door trim panel tool along the bottom, between the panel and the door. Push the tool to pry the clips loose. The bottom portion of the door panel is secured by clips; the top portion is secured by hooks.
Push the top portion of the door panel up to disengage the hooks, and then carefully pull the door panel a few inches away from the door. Unhook the harnesses for the power mirror, power window and power locks. Pull up the door lock actuator rod to unhook it from the door panel, and then set the door panel aside.
