There are many cookie cutter crafts that can be used around the home, both for decorative and practical purposes. Use cookie cutters to make country candle trims. Roll out self hardening clay with a rolling pin until the clay is about 1 inch thick and perfectly flat. Cut out shapes in the clay with cookie cutters. Trace the bottom of a taper candle in the center of each shape and cut away a small circle the size of the candle bottom. Once the clay has hardened, stack the clay shapes on taper candles for a simple and homespun embellishment.
The simple shape of a cookie cutter makes an excellent pattern for quilting or appliqué work. Just trace around the outside of the cookie cutter on fabric and cut out the pieces. Attach the fabric shapes to quilt blocks or appliqué projects with iron-on fusible webbing. Stitch around the shapes with contrasting thread.
Scrapbooking enthusiasts can use small cookie cutters as patterns for whimsical scrapbook trims. Trace around the cookie cutters on decorative scrapbook paper and cut out. Use large cookie cutters to make creative picture frames for scrapbook pages. Trace the cookie cutter shape and cut it out of the middle of a paper rectangle. Display photographs through the opening created by the cut away shape.
For curtain tie backs with a country touch, string cookie cutters through decorative ribbon and drape around curtains. This project is especially effective in a country kitchen.
Cookie cutters can also be used as molds for floater candles. Lay the cookie cutter on a foil lined tray. Place a short candle wick in the center of the cookie cutter. Slowly pour melted wax into the cookie cutter. When the wax hardens, you have adorable floater candles that can be used in holiday punches and drinks.
