Ways to Decorate Mirrors

Mirrors are versatile accent pieces in any home. They make a room seem lighter, brighter and more spacious. Although they may reflect something beautiful, simply framed or frame-less mirrors can appear plain or boring. But it's simple to change your mirror from ordinary to extraordinary and transform it into a work of art.

Custom Frame

  • Glue adornments to the plain frame on your mirror using a hot glue gun and glue. Try gluing silver or gold beads on the frame for a glamorous look, or seashells for a beach feel. Rocks and twigs add a rustic touch to a mirror, and silk flowers are great on a mirror in a little girl's room.

  • Paint your mirror to bring it to life. Paint the frame a rich, glossy color, or use acrylic paint to create a design on the mirror itself. Paint hearts around the edges of the mirror, close to the frame, or paint a scene on the mirror that matches the theme in a bedroom, like a road and cars for a little boy's room.

  • Add ribbon to your frame to give it a feminine look. Use a hot glue gun to add ribbon around the edge of the frame, or cross and recross the mirror itself with ribbons, creating a pattern of Xs. Then tuck special photos or mementos under the ribbon.

New Frame

  • Give your mirror a new frame. Choose a picture frame you love, and slide your mirror into it. You can even use a mat on your mirror, and then frame it. Consider custom-framing your mirror as you would a work of art. While this option is expensive, it can turn your mirror into an heirloom piece that you will treasure forever.
